Nova Zonnestraal is situated in Constantia, Cape Town, South Africa. Named
in 1685 after the daughter of the Commissioner, Baron van Rheede, the valley
became famous when Napoleon declared on occasion that he preferred "Constantia"
to his own French wines.
In Jane Austen's novel 'Sense and Sensibility', written in 1811, the
wine is referred to as "the finest old Constantia wine...that ever
was tasted", and recommended for its "healing powers on a
disappointed heart"
"Nova Zonnestraal" is a working farm in the Constantia Valley and offers Bed
and Breakfast accommodation among the Oaks and Vines. Farming of the grapes
plus the stabling of eight Show Jumpers and a large jump arena ensures plenty
to watch. Walks on the farm or merely reclining by the pool provides relaxation
whilst other activities include visits to nearby attractions and restaurants.
